NATIONAL GAMES FAQ

WHAT ARE THE AYSO NATIONAL GAMES? The AYSO National Games are held every other summer. National Games brings hundreds of AYSO soccer teams (U10 – U19) from AYSO regions all over the country (and beyond) to share in the diverse soccer culture of the AYSO family.

The AYSO National Games is a week-long soccer celebration that focuses on sportsmanship, team spirit and making new friends through the activities and events, such as opening ceremonies, SoccerFest, and nightly social offerings.  Ask anyone from our region who has had the privilege to participate in the Games – this is truly a special event, creating memories for parents and players alike that are sure to last a lifetime.

Rules for the games can be found here.  Also, you can learn more about the games by clicking here.

WHERE AND WHEN WILL THE NATIONAL GAMES BE HELD?

The 2016 National Games will be held July 5- July 10, 2016, in Palm Beach County, Florida.

WHAT TEAMS ARE WE FORMING FOR THE 2016 NATIONAL GAMES?

We will be forming 1 team per division for the following divisions: U10B, U10G, U12B, U12G, U14B, U14G, U16B, and U16G.  Participants in our VIP program are automatically invited to participate in National Games.

PLAYER REQUIREMENTS?

In order to try out for a National Games team, a player must have been registered in eAYSO for the 2015-2016 AYSO Membership Year by September 30, 2015 --OR-- registered for both the 2014-2015 AYSO Membership Year on or before March 31, 2015 and the 2015-2016 AYSO Membership Year on or before March 31, 2016.  No exceptions.

Players play in their current age divisions for National Games.  Unfortunately, no player with a birthdate after July 31, 2007, is eligible to participate in next summer's National Games.

TRYOUTS

Region 418 will conduct tryouts to select players for participation on National Games teams.  We plan to conduct tryouts in October 2015 -- look for more information on tryouts in the coming weeks.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TRYOUTS?

If offered a spot on one of our National Games teams, players must pay a fee to AYSO Region 418 to hold their spot on a team (the fee was $200 for the 2014 National Games, and we expect a similar fee for the 2016 National Games). This fee covers uniform costs and travel expenses for coaches. Please note that a portion of the fee will be considered non-refundable.

Players are required be able to cover their own costs for travel to and from the National Games, as well as their food and lodging costs for the duration of the trip. Fundraising is encouraged to help offset costs.

Players not placed on a team will be waitlisted. Waitlisted players will be contacted as slots open up.

DOES EACH PLAYER HAVE TO BE ESCORTED TO NATIONAL GAMES TO CALFORNIA BY A PARENT?

No, however each player has to have a pre-determined chaperone for the duration of the trip – someone who has agreed to be fully responsible for the player.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF PARTICIPATION IF MY CHILD MAKES THE TEAM?

To retain his/her spot on the National Games team roster, a player must attend a minimum of 50% of all of his or her regular (recreational) AYSO team’s games and practices.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Acceptance of teams into the National Games tournament is handled via lottery, and the goal of the National Games is to have representation from as many different AYSO Sections and Regions as possible.  Currently, only our U12B and U14B have been accepted.  We hope to receive invitations for all or additional teams between now and June 2016 as other teams reject their invitations or drop out - but we cannot guarantee anything, so please plan on being patient. If you do not think you can get comfortable with this uncertainty, then you may not want to accept a position on the team or on the waitlist. Some teams get in just days before the tournament is set to begin.

If your team does not get a slot in the tournament, you will be refunded your initial deposit, less any expenses the team may have incurred (such as uniform costs).
