Referee Training

Registration: As a Volunteer and for a Class

  • Register as an AYSO volunteer (using eAYSO.org)
  • Find a class (from the schedule below) and sign up for it (also using eAYSO.org).  We are Section 6, Area D, Region 418.  The roster number of the class is listed beside each class.
  • Complete the On-Line Referee Training course (available at aysotraining.org) prior to class.  Please bring certificate of completion to class (or to field, for on-field sessions).
  • Complete the On-Line Safe Haven course (also available at aysotraining.org)

Please contact Karen Butler, the Regional Referee Administrator, at ref.admin@ayso418.org, for more information.

Referees Needed!

In AYSO, EACH U10 team MUST provide a trained referee.   All our referees (just like our coaches) are volunteers, and most are parents of current players.  We have “pool” referees: these are volunteers who continue to referee even after their children no longer play for AYSO; they referee older age groups and when available fill in on days that parents can't referee.  During the SPRING 2016 season, “pool” referees will only be assigned to games where at least one team has provided a referee.  If there is no volunteer from either team, the game will not have a trained referee.

For more information, contact your child's coach or the Referee Administrator at ref.admin@ayso418.org

Referee Classroom Training Opportunities

Volunteering as a referee provides a great way for those who want to help their child's team but need flexible schedules: referee only as many games as your schedule permits.  Classroom training courses for U08 Official and U10 Basic Referees are generally held at the AYSO office at 4507 N. Ravenswood.

Completion of the AYSO On-Line Referee Training course before attending class is required; please see information about the on-line course below.  Higher-level courses are held either in the Region or outside the Region but within Area D.
