Northwind SC & EXTRA Tryouts

Northwind SC & AYSO EXTRA
2020-21 Season Tryouts

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the current restrictions on public gatherings, all prospective Northwind SC and AYSO EXTRA players will participate in a virtual tryout with members of the Northwind SC leaders and coaching staff. Players born between 2009 and 2012 may choose to be evaluated for selection to either a Northwind or EXTRA team.

Virtual tryouts for new players will start May 16th. Tryouts will be conducted via a secure video conference. Players will be able to participate in the tryout wherever they feel comfortable doing so. Evaluations will be performed virtually, and staff members will have no contact with any of the players.

Registration is required. Each tryout will last around 30 minutes. Information about a tryout date and time will be sent individually to each registered player.

After the tryout, the evaluating staff will determine if a place at Northwind SC or EXTRA is offered. This will guarantee invited players a spot in the program, however exact team placements cannot be determined until we are able to safely return to the soccer field.

AYSO's Travel Soccer Programs

AYSO Region 418 offers two travel soccer programs for players who are looking for a more competitive soccer experience: Chicago Northwind SC and AYSO EXTRA.

Chicago Northwind SC fields boys' and girls' teams ages U7 to U19, providing an opportunity for participants to play travel soccer at the highest level commensurate with their individual ability, potential, and interest. Northwind teams play in competitive Illinois Youth Soccer Association member leagues and tournaments during the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Additional summer training is available.

AYSO EXTRA is an interregional AYSO soccer program that allows players to represent AYSO Region 418 in competitions with teams from other AYSO regions in the Chicago area during the fall and spring seasons. EXTRA offers progressive player development, designed for players who have the interest, skills and abilities, and who want to enhance their soccer experience within a national AYSO program. EXTRA fields boys' and girls' teams in the 10U and 12U two-year age divisions. Teams are coached by certified volunteer coaches. EXTRA players are required to be concurrently enrolled in the Core Program and are therefore members of two soccer teams.

The Northwind SC and AYSO EXTRA programs follow AYSO's Six Philosophies: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development.

Selection Process

The tryout committee recognizes that tryouts are extremely important to players and families. We have tried to make the tryout process a fair, fun, and pressure-free environment for the players.

The decision to place a player on a team is never made unilaterally, but through group deliberation and consensus. This ensures a fair and objective tryout selection process.

By using an evaluation system that utilizes multiple criteria, the tryout committee’s goal is to ensure that its final decision on team placement is objective and holistic. Decisions are made after a thorough and careful review by the tryout committee.
