Time Commitment:

1-4 hours per week during the season.

AYSO Referee Requirements:

Adult and youth referees complete the same training courses.

  1. Annual volunteer registration (all referees) and background check (adult referees only, youth referees do not require a background check)
  2. AYSO's Safe Haven Training (online)
  3. Safe Sport (online)

Take Your Role Further

Become An Intermediate Referee

If you have enjoyed your referee experience, further your expertise by taking the Intermediate Referee certification! Regional referees should be able to easily upgrade to the Intermediate level by their second or third year.

AYSO training doesn't stop, as long as you're having fun! Intermediate referees can take the Advanced Referee and then the National Referee certifications.
